More than 250 exhibiting companies were  showing off their wares. \u003cbr/\u003eSiggraph is the largest convention for the world's best research innovations within the computer graphics industry. \u003cbr/\u003eThis year it united an estimated 30,000 computer graphics and interactive technology professionals from six continents to Los Angeles. \u003cbr/\u003eHuge industry leaders take part from Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Disney, to Google and Softimage - one of the world's leading developers of high end software for all areas of professional visual and content production. \u003cbr/\u003eComputer graphics today mean everything from movie graphics and video games, to aircraft design and product development. \u003cbr/\u003eJacquelyn Martino, chairperson for Siggraph 2008, says it's a great chance to network and discuss the latest technology. \u003cbr/\u003eOne of the highlights of the 2008 show was a new development in 3D animation for Hollywood movies. \u003cbr/\u003eTen studios will release movies in this new 3D technology next year. \u003cbr/\u003eWith over 70 per cent of high action films made up of computer generated shots today - 3D is the new buzz word as studios are now making movies in this new 3D that no longer needs the goofy eyewear. \u003cbr/\u003eDarin Grant is the head of production technology at  DreamWorks. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says the introduction of this technology will make going to the movies special again.\u003cbr/\u003eGrant explains how the system works : \u003cbr/\u003e\" It's only slightly different than going to a mono style movie to a normal 2D film. around the US in time for the launch of the new films. \u003cbr/\u003eRob Engle is the stereographic digital FX supervisor at Sony Pictures Imageworks. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says 3D will endure, so long as filmmakers choose the right stories because the technology exists. \u003cbr/\u003ePresentations take place all day long and give a glimpse into the future with highly realistic computer games and feature film special effects. \u003cbr/\u003ePaul Debevec is Associate Director, Graphics Research and Research and Research Associate Professor at University of Southern California. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says many the visual effects that we see on the movie screen originate as an idea in university research facilities. \u003cbr/\u003eIn addition to the festival's popular competition and invited
