All kinds of multi-media experiences that allow the viewer to really get an in depth experience about just how complex and diverse music was in this period.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThis socially tumultuous time in music saw great cultural and social transformations from civil rights uprisings to the nightclub scene on the Sunset Strip.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the exhibit, guests view iconic images, including old records and musician artifacts from magazine covers, album art, concert posters, billboards with hit makers of the time, rare photographs and vintage videos from life in the day.\u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibit focuses on the difference between the alluring myths of the beach parties that the world believed was the cornerstone of Los Angeles music, as depicted by The Beach Boys and Annette Funicello movies, and the realities of social struggle that ended up shaping the city's post-World War II identity.\u003cbr/\u003eDrew Tewksbury, Los Angeles based music journalist for the alternative newspaper L.A. Weekly says much in those years was really all about finding ones identity.\u003cbr/\u003e\"So much of the music that's exhibited here is music about revolution, about identity and a lot of other things about musicians from all over L.A. From east L.A. to the Latino artists, African American artists and a lot of people who were trying to get their sound to become global. That's something that's really interesting to see in this exhibit is that there is so much more music behind what we expect.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIndividual listening stations cover all genres of music, from the well documented surfer sounds, to jazz, Central Avenue sounds where R \u0026amp; B was headquartered at the time, the Sunset Strip rock scene with videos of the riot in 1967 to East L.A Chicano music, which was prevalent in the day as it emerged as a sound of the people.\u003cbr/\u003eOn display are pieces of music memorabilia, including artifacts belonging to the private collection of 86-year old pioneering American disc jockey and Hollywood Walk of Fame recipient Art Laboe showing the California music scene since he went on the air in 1945. \u003cbr/\u003eLaboe is credited with putting together the very first record album featuring artists from various labels and being the popular disc jokey who did a live show from Scrivners Drive-In in Los Angeles.\u003cbr/\u003eThe album remained on Billboard magazine's Top 100 LP chart for over three years. He is credited with creating the phrase \"Oldies but Goodies.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"An album always consisted of one artist.
