Wide view of press conference \u003cbr/\u003eThe parent company of European aircraft maker Airbus announced on Wednesday it has selected Mobile, Alabama over three other southern US sites for a new 600 (m) million US dollar factory.\u003cbr/\u003eEuropean aerospace and defence group (EADS) Chairman and CEO Ralph D. Crosby officially proclaimed Brookley Industrial Complex as the site for the new facility.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said it was \"strategically located\" on the Gulf of Mexico, and offered a skilled work force, airport runways and a deep-water port.\u003cbr/\u003eBoeing's European rival will build refuelling tankers there if it wins the contract from the Pentagon. \u003cbr/\u003eBoeing lost the tanker deal last year, after revelations that it had hired a top Air Force official who later admitted giving the company preferential treatment.\u003cbr/\u003eInitially, EADS plans an engineering centre that would employ 100 to 150 people. \u003cbr/\u003eIf the company wins the tanker contract, it would then team with a U.S. defence contractor, most likely Northrop Grumman, to build the factory.\u003cbr/\u003eThe new factory could employ as many as 1,000 people.\u003cbr/\u003eAlabama Governor Bob Riley was on hand for the announcement and said it was a \"win-win-win situation.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAlabama Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions also attended the announcement, as well as Representative Jo Bonner. \u003cbr/\u003eEADS, based in France and Germany, had said that it planned to offer a tanker version of its Airbus A330 passenger jet for the multi-billion (b) US dollar Air Force contract to produce a new generation of aerial refuelling
