The current approach is not working,\" Hamilton said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe report said Bush should put aside misgivings and engage Syria, Iran and the leaders of insurgent forces in negotiations on Iraq's future, to begin by year's end. \u003cbr/\u003eIt urged him to revive efforts at a broader Middle East peace. \u003cbr/\u003eBarring a significant change, it warned of a slide toward chaos.\u003cbr/\u003eOn the highly emotional issue of troop withdrawals, the commission warned against either a precipitous pullback or an open-ended commitment to a large deployment.\u003cbr/\u003eThe group recommended a withdrawing nearly all American combat units by early 2008, with a goal of training, equipping and advising Iraqi forces to take their place. \u003cbr/\u003eAt a news conference that marked the formal release of the results of the commission's eight-month labours, Baker, who co-chairs the commission, said \"there is no magic formula that will solve the problems of Iraq.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBaker's co-chair, Hamilton, called the situation in Iraq, \"very, very serious,\" adding that the panel does \"not know if it can be turned around.\"\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier on Monday US President George W.
