Rehnquist asked how a recount and likely court appeals could have been completed by Tuesday, the deadline for choosing presidential electors that would be shielded from challenge in Congress.\u003cbr/\u003eA quick ruling was expected from the nation's highest court on Bush's argument that the Florida Supreme Court unlawfully ordered recounts of votes cast across the state. \u003cbr/\u003eA ruling for Bush could doom Gore's chances of gaining enough votes to grab Florida's 25 electoral votes and the presidency.\u003cbr/\u003eLast Monday, the justices set aside a previous Florida Supreme Court decision that allowed an earlier round of recounts. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Saturday, the justices voted 5 to 4 to stop the new Florida recount and grant quick review to Bush's appeal.\u003cbr/\u003eO'Connor and Justice Anthony M.
