SOT Susan Sarandon: \"Initially we saw the play, we live down town anyway and of course we're very interested in helping all of theatres come back that were downtown, so when we saw it initially we had no idea that we'd actually ever do it and in fact I started doing it first without Tim and then eventually Tim did it without me. People had been kind of going in as an ongoing tribute to keep it and then Tim moved the show to California and did it with Helen Hunt and then I did it with him and now other people are doing it so because it's a staged reading and becvause it's usually in rep people are able to find time to do it and it's been a way of people contributing to the memorial to the firefighters really.\" \u003cbr/\u003e3. It was written as a staged reading not as a play and so we decided to keep it in that format rather than try to expand it or open it up.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"Also, since it's based on a real life encounter between a journalist and a fire captain, it's a document of the time and I think that once you take it off the staged reading format it becomes more a play about the actors than it is a document about the people.\"\u003cbr/\u003e6. SOT Tim Robbins: \"Everyone in New York when it happened wanted to do something, they wanted to help, they wanted to go and be viscerally involved and physically involved, they wanted to go dig and they couldn't. So it was very frustrating to be there and you didn't want to be ayt home and you didn't want to watch television and you wanted to be there helping the people who live in New York. So when I saw this play first, it first struck me as a really important piece for a number of reasons - one of which was that it was an incredible to firefighters and it continues to be an opportunity for them to go and see their experience given life on stage. In all of the best ways that theatre can be an immediate response to events that are happening but also a way to experience a communality of emotion and to be able to use the experience as a way to go past a certain pain or an experience that they're in.\"\u003cbr/\u003e8. I was so exhausted, Tim had a play here and we made the trip and so we were trying to think of somewhere to go and we were thinking of coming to Ireland and Scotland, I'd recently worked with some Scottish actors, and then we just thought maybe we'd make a call and see if we could do it you know? It was really just serendipidous that we found a venue and that it was really a great place to do it for a specific amount of time and the abbey was really great too so it worked out to be part of a family vacation.\"\u003cbr/\u003e11. B-Roll Susan Sarandon receiving a star on Hollywood Boulevard\u003cbr/\u003eHollywood golden couple Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon were today speaking about their roles in a play about the September 11 attacks in the USA.\u003cbr/\u003eThe actors spoke before their third and final performance in Edinburgh of \"The Guys\" at the 650-seat Royal Lyceum Theatre.\u003cbr/\u003eTheir play, about the reaction to the destruction of the World Trade Centre twin towers in New York, features Robbins as a grieving fire captain struggling to come to terms with the loss of his colleagues in the twin towers tragedy.  Sarandon portrays a journalist who helps Robbins' character write funeral speeches for his dead colleagues.\u003cbr/\u003eMs Sarandon said one of the positive results of the September 11 attacks was that it gave America something in common with other countries who have fallen prey to terrorism.  \"Afterwards, I said to my kids: ``We've joined the rest of the world now',\" she said.\u003cbr/\u003e\"You're so lucky in Ireland, England and Spain. Everyone there already knows what it's like to have inexplicable terrorist violence.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSarandon, best known for her roles in Dead Man Walking and Thelma and Louise, said:  \"I don't think that a military expansion of violence is the solution. First you have to ask the right questions and we haven't formed the right questions on what's going on in the world right now. No, I don't think I would want to go to war against Iraq.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSarandon and Robbins talked about the play at Edinburgh's Sheraton  Grand Hotel.\u003cbr/\u003eThe actress, a native New
