Zoom in to banner reading: (English) \"The Academy Awards\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe countdown to Hollywood's biggest night was under way on Sunday, and final preparations were almost complete for the 83rd annual Academy Awards to be held later on at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.\u003cbr/\u003eTemperatures were expected to hover around 50 degrees Fahrenheit (about 10 degrees Celsius) for the Oscars, unusually crisp for Los Angeles, but the chill in the air didn't seem to dampen enthusiasm for the big night.\u003cbr/\u003eOnly the biggest names in show business and those nominated for Academy Awards get to be inside the Kodak Theatre for the ceremony.   \u003cbr/\u003eBut hundreds of others who wanted to get a glimpse of the action - and were lucky enough to get tickets for the red carpet bleacher - started lining up just after dawn in hopes of getting a good spot to see their favourite performers.\u003cbr/\u003eHigh on the list of popular favourites this year was English actor Colin Firth in the acclaimed film \"The King's Speech\", which dramatises the stuttering British monarch George VI.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The King's Speech\" leads this year's competition with 12 nominations and is highly favoured to win best picture.  \u003cbr/\u003eOscar fanatics in line for the bleachers seemed to agree.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I'd love to see Colin Firth.  I saw the movie 'The King's Speech.'  If he don't win, I won't be happy. That was a great movie,\" said Elmer Armstrong, who travelled with his wife and granddaughter from Saint Louis, Missouri, to be near the red carpet on the big night.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The Social Network,\" which chronicles Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's fierce legal battles over the spoils of his creation, remains a serious candidate for the Oscars crown.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I like 'Social Network.'  I think it was a good movie. The other ones were kind of boring,\" said Silvia Elmer, who came all the way from Frankfurt, Germany for a glimpse of the action.\u003cbr/\u003eBoth films have led a strong and varied field of best-picture contenders since they debuted nearly six months ago. \u003cbr/\u003eAlso up for best picture: the psychosexual thriller \"Black Swan\"; the boxing drama \"The Fighter\"; the sci-fi blockbuster \"Inception\"; the lesbian family tale \"The Kids Are All Right\"; the survival chronicle \"127 Hours\"; the animated comedy \"Toy Story 3\"; the Western \"True Grit\"; and the Ozarks crime story \"Winter's Bone.\"\u003cbr/\u003eWith TV ratings on a general decline over the last few decades, Oscar organisers doubled the best-picture category from five to 10 films last year, hoping to spice up the show and bring in a broader range of films. \u003cbr/\u003eOscar planners made other high profile changes as well, casting youthful actors Anne Hathaway and James Franco as hosts, and
