And I've always wanted to do a thriller and an action movie. And Bond's roots are in the thriller rather than an action movie. (Ian) Fleming, the Fleming novels are thrillers rather than action-packed adventures, you know. And there was something in that that was very attractive,\" said Mendes. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Skyfall\" stars Daniel Craig as the British spy for the third time. He last appeared as 007 in 2008's \"Quantum of Solace.\" Craig said he was thrilled to work with Mendes on developing the film. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We're very excited about it. One of the first things we did with Sam was rereading the Ian Flemings. It was a chance for me to reread them. We started, I started, emailing each other saying \"What about this? What about this?\" and that's how it kind of snowballed, really.\u003cbr/\u003eThe spy's troubled psyche took center stage at the press conference. Mendes, best-known for his stage work and emotionally intense dramas like \"Revolutionary Road\" and \"The Road to Perdition,\" said the character's complexity is part of Bond's appeal.\u003cbr/\u003e\"(The) Character (Ian) Fleming created over a number of novels was incredible complex,\" he said. \"And Ithink some people sometimes forget in the clich� of Bond, which is you know, the international playboy, and who's someone who's untroubled and never breaks a sweat. That actually what he created was a very conflicted character. Thelast novels that Fleming wrote, you know, he (Bond) suffers what he (Fleming) describes as \"acity\" (sp?) which is a kind of lassitude, combination of lassitude, boredom, depression, difficulty, with you know, with what he haschosen to do for a living which is to kill. And that makes him a much more interesting character and some of those things are explored in this movie because Daniel (Craig) is an actor who's capable of exploring them.\". \u003cbr/\u003eCraig will be joined by Judi Dench who returns as spy chief M. The film introduces two new Bond girls, English actress Naomie Harris as a field agent named Eve and French performer Berenice Marlohe as \"a glamorous, enigmatic character\" named Severine. Relatively unknown outside of her native of France, Marlohe said she hoped to bring her own personality to the role. \u003cbr/\u003e\"For me it's an amazing chance to be a part of this movie, of a James Bond movie. I've never dreamt of being a Bond girl, actually, but I've always dreamt to belong to a James Bond movie,\" she said. \u003cbr/\u003eThe movie was shot on location in London, Scotland, Turkey and China. Newcomer Harris said their experience in Turkey has so far been great. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It has been fantastic. I mean, filming at the Grand Bazaar it's such a wonderful location. And the warmth of the Turkish people as well. And extraordinary experience. And also, you know, we filmed as well for a month in Adana so we've been in Turkey for quite some time actually. It has all been fantastic,\" said Harris. \u003cbr/\u003eWork on the film was postponed, and Bond's future looked uncertain, when studio MGM filed for bankruptcy in 2010.
