Once again, they're promoting peace, diversity and the importance of brushing your teeth.\u003cbr/\u003eNew episodes of Sesame Street are going on TV in Israel and Palestinian territories, years after the original versions signed off.\u003cbr/\u003eAs with the popular U.S. programme, designed to enhance basic educational content for youngsters, producers tailored the Middle East casts and story lines to the fit the audiences. \u003cbr/\u003eThe new Israeli version of the show \"Rechov Sumsum,\" includes the show's first ever Israeli-Arab muppet, Mahboub, who speaks both Hebrew and Arabic.\u003cbr/\u003eAlong with its Palestinian counterpart, \"Shara's Simsim,\" the show seeks to offer positive role models to the children in the Israel, West Bank and Gaza.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Sesame street is indeed the longest street in the world and indeed all streets leads to this part of the world.'' said Gary Knell, President of Sesame Workshop, the New York-based non-profit group behind Sesame Street programming worldwide.\u003cbr/\u003eKnell said the goal is to counter negative influences of a society where children as young as three can begin to demonstrate prejudice.\u003cbr/\u003eIn tandem with the re-launch of the shows, officials announced the distribution of Muppet-themed educational kits to children throughout Israel, Gaza and the West Bank.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It opens up a new way to deal with issues of conflict,\" Yuli Tamir, Israel's Minister of Education, said at a ceremony in a Jerusalem kindergarten, \"just teaching children how to live together, how to work together with each other despite their differences.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe ceremony followed more than a week of meetings between Knell and the region's top political figures, seeking funding and support for local Sesame Street productions.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier Sunday, he met with Aliza Olmert, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.  On Saturday, while in Ramallah to mark the upcoming broadcast of 15 new episodes there, he met with Saeb Erekat, a top aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and long-time negotiator with the Israeli government.\u003cbr/\u003eLast week, Knell met with met with Queen Rania of Jordan and Suzanne Mubarak, wife of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.\u003cbr/\u003eLaunched in the United States in the late 1960's, Sesame Street is currently shown in more than 120 countries.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Israeli version enjoyed wide success when first aired in the early 1980's. A lack of funds stopped production of new episodes for more than a decade, but producers relaunched the show last winter.\u003cbr/\u003eTensions have long existed between Israel's Jewish and Arab communities. Arabs make up about one-fifth the country's population and, while officially equal with Jewish residents, have long complained of treatment as second-class citizens.\u003cbr/\u003eHuman actors on the
