One which is estimated at 25 to 35 million dollars which is \"Green Car Crash,\" which has been in the same collection since the 70's and our expectation for this painting is that it's going to break all records. The record for Warhol was actually broken last season by a painting of Mao, Chairman Mao, by Warhol. People are so use to horror, so use to death, that's its very very difficult to take it in for more than a second and Warhol understood this perfectly. The idea of repetition, the image becomes so heated that you lose that sense of disgust, that sense of horror and he was very attuned to that idea of repetition, but also media coverage.\"\u003cbr/\u003e8. Framed prints by Rothko, Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein on sale \u003cbr/\u003eLeading auction houses, Sotheby's and Christie's, are preparing to go head-to-head this week with auctions that are expected to set record prices for fine art.\u003cbr/\u003eSotheby's has predicted its two main sales in New York could fetch up to $561 million.\u003cbr/\u003eChristie's hopes its sales will make up to $545 million.\u003cbr/\u003eAmong the paintings under the hammer will be works of art by Francis Bacon and Andy Warhol.\u003cbr/\u003eAndy Warhol's  \"Green Car Crash (Green Burning Car I)\" from his seminal Death and Disaster series is expected to top $30 million at Christie's when it is sold on May 16, 2007.  \u003cbr/\u003eAndy Warhol is considered by many to be the father of the Pop Art movement.\u003cbr/\u003eBrett Gorvy, is the Deputy Chairman of Christies Americas. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says they expect the Warhol sale to break all previous records. \u003cbr/\u003eGorvy says the painting represents modern society and how we have become immune to horror and death. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says it is unusual for one of Warhol's 'death and disaster'  works to come up for sale. \u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile a day earlier than the Christie's sale, rival auction house Sotheby's is hoping Francis Bacon's \"Study from Innocent X, 1962\" will fetch more than $30 million when it comes under the hammer on May 15. \u003cbr/\u003eThe well known painting forms part of a series based on the  Anglo-Irish artists, Diego Velazquez's \"Portrait of Pope Innocent X, 1650\".  \u003cbr/\u003eBacon's work was on display in London, UK (19 April 2007) before the auction in New York.\u003cbr/\u003eSotheby's expects its two main evening sales in New York next month to fetch from $416 million to over $561 million.\u003cbr/\u003eChristie's expects its equivalent sales, also held in New York in May, will make $405-545 million.\u003cbr/\u003eBut if you are a modern art fan on a more modest budget, you can find prints of works by Rothko, Warhol and the other name of 'Pop Art' Roy Lichtenstein on sale in markets like Camden in London, where they retail, unframed, for around �9.
