Wide interior of tour agency\u003cbr/\u003eAfter years of frozen relations, there are signs that Iran and Egypt are gradually resuming their bilateral ties.   \u003cbr/\u003eIranian President Mohammad Khatami recently described Egypt as a country with whom relations \"had always been good\", adding that \"the two nations' souls and cultures are closest to each other than ever before\".\u003cbr/\u003eBut he conceded that during recent discussions with his Egyptian counterpart, Hosni Mubarak, the two leaders agreed it would take time for all the obstacles impeding normal bilateral relations to be overcome.\u003cbr/\u003eKhatami added that while Egypt and Iran were \"determined\" to solve their problems, neither country was \"in a hurry for normalising relations, that will take place in good time\". \u003cbr/\u003eIran cut its ties with Egypt after the 1979 Camp David agreement, which normalised Egypt-Israel relations and formally ended some 30 years of tension between them.  \u003cbr/\u003eEgyptian President Anwar Sadat, who signed the Camp David agreement, was assassinated in 1981 by a group of Muslim extremists lead by Egyptian Khalid al Islambuli, who has had street in Iran's capital, Tehran, named after him.\u003cbr/\u003eLater, during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988), Egypt backed some of Iraq's policies, further adding to the tensions with Iran.\u003cbr/\u003eBut after the war and following Khatami's efforts to ease strained relations, Tehran decided to expand its relationship with many Arab countries, especially Egypt and Saudi Arabia. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite the decision, some analysts believe that the presence of the grave of Iran's former king Mohammed Reza Pahlavi in Egypt, and the naming a main Cairo street in his honour, could be a reason for the delay in the resumption of thawed Iran-Egypt relations.\u003cbr/\u003eHaving ruled as monarch since 1941, Pahlavi fled the country during the 1979 Islamic revolution and eventually found refuge in Sadat's Egypt where he lived out his days in exile.  \u003cbr/\u003eHe died in 1980.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe Rifa'I mosque in Cairo houses his shrine and has become a place of pilgrimage for some Iranians. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite the historical political obstables, Iranian tour operator Dr. Ghassemi said Iranian authorities had promised to issue visas allowing travel between the two countries.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking as president of Iran's Markaz travel agency, he said the company had \"announced our readiness to our Egyptian partners, that we can accept and
