Mid of group of people looking at photo, man crying\u003cbr/\u003eFamily, friends and colleagues of Remi Ochlik gathered in Paris on Wednesday to remember the French photographer, who was one of two journalists killed while trying to report on the crisis in Syria.\u003cbr/\u003eOchlik, a 28 year old photojournalist, died on February 22 with Marie Colvin, 56, a veteran correspondent for The Sunday Times of London.\u003cbr/\u003eThey died in an explosion while trapped inside a besieged district in the central Syrian city of Homs. \u003cbr/\u003eOchlik had only arrived the night before.\u003cbr/\u003eThe attack also wounded Edith Bouvier of the French daily Le Figaro and British photographer Paul Conroy. \u003cbr/\u003eBouvier and French photographer William Daniels, who was not injured but also had been trapped in Homs, arrived in France last Friday after being smuggled through tunnels and snow from Syria into Lebanon.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking at an event to remember Ochlik, held at the Quai Branly Museum in Paris on Wednesday, Daniels recalled the events leading to his death.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said that after the first shell hit the building they were staying in, all the journalists were told to get out. \u003cbr/\u003e\"One of our Syrian guardian angels then understands that a new mortar will fall and asks us to get back inside. You, you are dead,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eAt just 20 years old, Ochlik got his professional start covering riots in Haiti in 2004. The next year he set up photo agency IP3 Press and covered sports, society and politics. \u003cbr/\u003eWhen the \"Arab Spring\" erupted last year Ochlik was on the scene following events in Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Egypt, and most recently, Syria.\u003cbr/\u003eOchlik knew the job's dangers: He was a friend of Lucas Dolega, a photographer with EPA agency who died in January last year after being hit by a tear gas canister while covering Tunisia's revolution.\u003cbr/\u003eOn February 12, his 12-photograph series titled \"Battle For Libya\" won the first prize in the general news category of the prestigious 2012 World Press Photo contest.
