But he says that no preventative measures are being taken for the Hajj, other than at an information level.\u003cbr/\u003e\"In terms of Ebola itself it's more information (as a preventive measure) because at the moment there aren't any known cases in the Middle East. Obviously with the mass movement of people during Hajj if people from the West African areas come to Saudi Arabia there is a risk of bringing the infection on with them,\" says Valli.\u003cbr/\u003e\"So it's more informing the people about what the symptoms are and what to look out for and how to avoid trying to contract the infection. And it changes from year-to-year, so every year there may be a different virus or different infection which is causing a problem in the area.\"\u003cbr/\u003eTwo-year old Tawseef is among those going to perform Hajj for the first time. \u003cbr/\u003eHe's here at the vaccination clinic in London with his parents, who have already made the pilgrimage twice.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Valli, it is common for people to pick up milder viruses at an event like the Hajj - although not everyone will develop symptoms. \u003cbr/\u003eHe also says that other health issues - like looking after your feet - are often underestimated. \u003cbr/\u003e\"There is a risk of developing blisters which, for people with diabetes for example, can turn into quite serious ulcers,\" he explains.\u003cbr/\u003e\"So it's making sure they've got good quality footwear so that they're comfortable in what they walk in and they're less likely to develop blisters. And if they do develop cuts or blisters on their feet, they dress them and clean them appropriately so that they don't become infected.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHajj is the oldest and most sacred ritual of Islam that every able-bodied Muslim who can financially afford the trip must perform once in a lifetime. \u003cbr/\u003eThe journey brings together the many nations that make up the 1.3 billion Muslims worldwide.\u003cbr/\u003eThe pilgrimage is packed with symbolism and ritual aimed at cleansing the soul of sin and winning absolution by tracing the footsteps of the Prophet Mohammed and Abraham, whom Muslims view as a forefather of Islam.\u003cbr/\u003eIt culminates when the pilgrims gather on Mount Arafat where the Prophet Mohammed is said to have given his last sermon 14 centuries ago. \u003cbr/\u003eDuring the ritual Muslims believe God will grant whatever prayers they make.\u003cbr/\u003ePilgrims then cast pebbles at three pillars that represent Satan in a symbolic rejection of temptation, a day that also marks the start of the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, or feast of sacrifice, when Muslims around the world slaughter sheep and cattle in remembrance of Abraham's near-sacrifice of his son.\u003cbr/\u003eIt can take years for people to save enough money to take part in the Hajj, but the number of younger people travelling from the UK is said to be on the rise this year.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The national trend this year has been many people in their late twenties, early thirties, so the younger generation are getting ready to perform that pilgrimage, journey of a lifetime,\" says Rashid Mogradia, CEO of The Council of British Hajjis (CBH UK).\u003cbr/\u003e\"When you compare the statistics with people from the Asian subcontinent for example, it differs quite rapidly because they themselves perform Hajj in the later stages of life, in the late sixties, seventies, in some cases in the eighties and nineties even. Because they are having to save all their life to perform this journey.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMogradia says approximately 20 to 25-thousand people go annually from the UK, and around 60-70-thousand for the lesser pilgrimage, Umrah.\u003cbr/\u003eThe cost per person can range anywhere from 3,500 pounds (5,800 US dollars), to 7,000 pounds (11,600 US dollars), he says. \u003cbr/\u003eMogradia himself has performed Hajj three times, once with his wife and twice with a group of doctors, providing support to other pilgrims. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says the apparent popularity of Hajj among the younger generations in the UK could very well be linked to wealth.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Here, due to demographics, and the kind of background that we live in, a little more affluency, in terms of more developed in the Western world, we see that change respectively year on year.\"\u003cbr/\u003eKarim Rezawool and his brother-in-law Abdul Azim is spending around 22,000 pounds (36,500 US dollars) for five family members to make the journey. \u003cbr/\u003eAzim says: \"It's been quite a stressful period but exciting at the same time.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"Yeah, because at this time last year I did not think I'd be going. But I feel good about the fact that I'll be going at a young age,\" Rezawoold agrees.\u003cbr/\u003eShamama Begum and her sister Bushra are among six family members going. \u003cbr/\u003eShamama says she feel very excited for her upcoming trip. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I think now it's hitting me, seeing everybody, getting everything. So, yeah, excited now.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAlso here at the London Muslim Centre event is a fraud team from the City of London Police.\u003cbr/\u003eThey're warning people pilgrims of possible travel scams. \u003cbr/\u003e\"If people have been on Hajj and it's been ruined by fraudsters, if you've lost your money, if your Hajj is ruined, let us know, we can try to start to do something about it.
