Close view of Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson pull out to wide of Committee\u003cbr/\u003eUS Secretary of State Robert Gates admitted on Thursday that the question of the future of the US detention centre for terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba was more complicated than he had first thought.\u003cbr/\u003eBack in January, during his confirmation hearings, Gates said he thought the prison at Guantanamo should be closed.\u003cbr/\u003eBut on Thursday, the Secretary of Defence told a House Appropriations subcommittee that the more important question was what to do with detainees still housed at the island prison.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The reality is,\" he said, \"There are people at Guantanamo we would like to turn back to their home countries and their home countries won't take them.  There are also some number of people at Guantanamo, that frankly, based on their own confessions should never be released.\"\u003cbr/\u003eGates said it may require new laws for dealing with so-called
