medal.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) convened in Lausanne to hear the appeal from South Korean gymnast Yang Tae-young.\u003cbr/\u003eHe believes he was unfairly deprived of the gold in the men's all-around event in Athens last month because of a scoring error. \u003cbr/\u003eThe meeting took place at Hotel Eau Rivage, on the banks of Lake Geneva.\u003cbr/\u003eYang Tae-young wants CAS to order international gymnastics officials to reorder the rankings and give him the gold medal and Hamm the silver. \u003cbr/\u003eBut Hamm and the US Olympic Committee promised to fight Yang's appeal as vigorously as the South Korean has battled in his quest for the gold.\u003cbr/\u003e\"That's why we're all here, to keep the medal,\" Hamm told APTN as he arrived in Switzerland on Sunday.\u003cbr/\u003eCAS scheduled a one-day hearing on the case, but it might take two weeks before a verdict is announced.\u003cbr/\u003eYang mistakenly was docked 0.1 points for the level of difficulty in his parallel bars routine. \u003cbr/\u003eIf Yang had received the proper score, he would have finished 0.051 points ahead of Hamm, although that assumes everything in the final rotation would have played out the same way.\u003cbr/\u003eEven though the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) acknowledged the error and suspended the judges, it said repeatedly it wouldn't change the results because the South Koreans didn't file a protest in time.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd even if the protest had been filed in time, Hamm's supporters say an inadvertent error by judges shouldn't have caused such a maelstrom.\u003cbr/\u003eA panel of three arbitrators heard evidence in a closed hearing at the hotel, they were then due to retire to consider their verdicts.\u003cbr/\u003eBoth Hamm and Yang declined to comment as they entered the hearing.\u003cbr/\u003eThe FIG also said on Monday that it has recommended that its congress adopt new rules in response to Hamm's case, including immediate suspension of up to four years for judges who make scoring mistakes and a new scoring system.\u003cbr/\u003eReeb said it was the first time CAS has judged on a gymnastics scoring
