Porters carrying tuna on shoulders while being unloaded from ship\u003cbr/\u003eThere's never a quiet morning at the fishing port of General Santos in the southern Philippines.\u003cbr/\u003eEvery day, fishing boats coming from as far away as the waters off New Guinea and Palau in search of tuna, arrive at this busy port to dump their load of fresh yellowfin and skipjack.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tuna fishermen who arrive here with their catch spend at least 20 days at sea.  \u003cbr/\u003eWhile their foreign counterparts use nets or mechanised lines, these Filipino fishermen still practice the regular hook and line system to catch tuna, one at a time.\u003cbr/\u003eUpon arrival at General Santos port, the fish - which can weigh to as much as 70 kilograms (150 pounds) each - are manually brought down from fishing boats by porters carrying the fish on their shoulders. \u003cbr/\u003eThese are weighed then bid for by fish buyers who clean and package them for distribution to tuna markets worldwide. \u003cbr/\u003eIt takes less than two hours from the time the tuna is dropped at the fish port for it to be weighed, cleaned, and ice-packed for air delivery. \u003cbr/\u003eOn average the port processes between one and two thousand heads of tuna per day and is considered one of the world's leading producers of sashimi-grade tuna.\u003cbr/\u003eFor decades, General Santos has been known as the 'tuna capital' of the Philippines and is one of the country's fastest-growing cities.\u003cbr/\u003eMany migrants seeking employment have been lured to the port by the prospect of work in the city's growing tuna industry, which includes several canning factories and companies exporting sashimi to the Japanese market.\u003cbr/\u003eIn their website, city authorities say the population is currently increasing by as many as 10-thousand people per month.\u003cbr/\u003eIts proximity to tuna-rich fishing grounds including the Moro gulf, Sulu Sea, Mindanao Sea and adjacent
