During the conflict years in Afghanistan access to vaccination  has been extremely difficult and it's extremely important that we now have access to all  areas of the country and that women and children are able to travel to vaccination  centres in absolute safety.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Jeremy Hartley, Information Officer, UNICEF\u003cbr/\u003eHere in the slums of Kabul, the programme is well under way.\u003cbr/\u003eIt may look disorganised, but it's taken three months of effort to alert people to the  campaign.\u003cbr/\u003eThere's another aim to this project and that's to raise funds for children caught up in  wars around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Afghan immunisation programme is the first of two such projects this year.\u003cbr/\u003eThe second, in July, will be timed with the Atlanta Olympic Games as part of a  collaboration to highlight the plight of children in wars.\u003cbr/\u003eAtlanta Olympic Aid will be giving special attention to Afghanistan's children.\u003cbr/\u003eOlympic stars, like gold medalists David Wilkie and Ann Cody, are already in Kabul to  help raise funds for the campaign.\u003cbr/\u003eBut for many of the children here, the vaccines will come too late.\u003cbr/\u003eLike friends who've lost legs to landmines, they're destined to spend the rest of their  lives disabled.\u003cbr/\u003eKabul, 16 June 1996\u003cbr/\u003e1.
