Various of Mark Titchner's installations in exhibition hall\u003cbr/\u003eThe works of four artists nominated for the 2006 Turner Prize went on show on Monday (02OCT06) at the Tate Britain in London, fuelling anticipation for what is largely considered one of the most significant art prizes in contemporary art.\u003cbr/\u003eTomma Abts, Phil Collins (not the musician) Mark Titchner, and Rebecca Warren are competing for the �25,000 prize.\u003cbr/\u003ePrevious winners of the Turner Prize have included renowned artists, who have now become household names, include Damien Hirst, Chris Ofili, and Grayson Perry - signalling just how important winning a prize of this magnitude is.\u003cbr/\u003eKatherine Stout, Tate Galley Curator said this years Turner prize will be awarded to the artist who can show they have significantly contributed to the art community within the last 12 months.\u003cbr/\u003eTomma Abts, painter is German born and was selected for her rigorous and consistent approach to painting. \u003cbr/\u003eAbts builds and enriches the language of abstract painting through her intimate and compelling canvases.\u003cbr/\u003eBritish born Phil Collins, currently resides in Glasgow.
