Close-up of words of Plato poem displayed on sign. \u003cbr/\u003eLovers in Shanghai are heading to the city's 'Sweet Love Road' ahead of Valentine's Day.\u003cbr/\u003eThere they can post a special Valentine's card  - an expression of love that is worth a thousand texts, tweets or emails. \u003cbr/\u003eThe name says it all: this is, literally, \"Sweet Love Road\", a well-known Mecca for Shanghai couples. \u003cbr/\u003eAt first sight, it's just a pretty street in the heart of Shanghai's former American concession. \u003cbr/\u003eBut if you look closer, a more romantic side emerges. \u003cbr/\u003e\"A book of verses, underneath the bough. A jug of wine, a loaf of bread -and thou beside me singing in the wilderness; Ah, wilderness, were paradise enow (enough) !\" \u003cbr/\u003eThe words of the Persian poet Omar Khayyam in the 11th century are among the many beautiful love poems from world-famous authors decorating the sidewalks here.\u003cbr/\u003eWilliam Shakespeare, Plato and some Chinese poets are also featured on signs along Tian'ai Road.\u003cbr/\u003eResidents in the area say that, because of its name and unusual colonial architecture, the street has always been a hotspot for the romantically inclined.\u003cbr/\u003eMary Ma has come to take a walk with her boyfriend, Oliver Xu, who had no idea about the street's fame:\u003cbr/\u003e\"We walked down the road, so I hope that means that our love will be sweet in the future,\" she says\u003cbr/\u003eSong Yeilin has been living in the area for more than 60 years. \u003cbr/\u003eHe explains how the road came to be named \"sweet love\".\u003cbr/\u003eIt's a tale of a Chinese  lovers who lived here at the end of Qing Dynasty, in the late 19th century. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The boy's name was Xiang De (Lucky), and the girl's name was Tian'ai (Sweet Love). They were both the offspring from two important families here. These two kids met and then fell in love at a very young age. So they named this street Tian'ai Road and the one next to it Xiang De,\" he explains. \u003cbr/\u003eThe street's main attraction is probably Shanghai's best-known postbox, where couples deposit their love letters. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Following the track of love, let us enjoy the romantic love stories and sweet imaginations along the sequestered Tian'ai Road,\" reads a heart-shaped sign besides the mailbox.\u003cbr/\u003eThe local district government set up the mailbox two years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eSong Bingyu is mailing some love notes. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's a very traditional dating road in Shanghai. I think the name sounds very nice and it's also famous. It has a very beautiful meaning,\" Song says. \u003cbr/\u003eTo make it even more special, letters can be brought to a nearby district government's office where a security guard will provide a special stamp certifying that the message was sent from Sweet Love Street.\u003cbr/\u003eQu Baochun has been administering love in small doses with a little stamp for over two years,. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite how technology-savvy young generations can be, he says that there's a growing nostalgia - where many people are interested in sharing thoughts and feelings in the traditional way.\u003cbr/\u003e\"In the old times we just wrote letters. It was a different time. We were even too shy to talk to the girls. So we would throw them papers with handwritten notes on them. After that, the girl would open the paper and see the writing: 'I like you,'\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003eMost of the people who come to get the stamps are young girls, and not all of them are sending letters to boyfriends. \u003cbr/\u003eSometimes, they just want to show care for relatives or to wish friends good luck luck in the pursuit of love.  \u003cbr/\u003eLi Meiqi is sending a card to a friend.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This postcard is for one of my friends - she's a girl who I met in one of our public interest groups. She's also single, like me, so with the postcard I'm going to tell her that I hope she finds her other half in this new year.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"Receiving a letter will make people feel warm. Seeing the handwritten letter will bring warmth to my friends,\" Li Meiqi says.\u003cbr/\u003eNow it's the postman's turn to play Cupid.\u003cbr/\u003eJian Fanjun comes three times every day to collect the mail on Tian'ai Road. \u003cbr/\u003eUsually, he finds postcards full of blessings and lots of \"I miss you\" messages. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says that the mailbox becomes more popular as Valentine's Day approaches.\u003cbr/\u003e\"On those dates, there are more letters and more of them come with the love symbol stamp on them,\" he explains.  \u003cbr/\u003eBut he's under pressure, too.  The letters in his mail bag are not only the confessions of lovers, but he also carries the hopes of many singles trying to find a match in an increasingly competitive dating world.\u003cbr/\u003eLongtime resident Song Yeilin says, love in modern Shanghai is difficult to find.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There are so many girls in Shanghai that are old and are still waiting to get married. The problem is that they want their matches to be rich,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd he reiterates, in English: \"It is not very easy, it's not easy.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eAnd for anyone who needs reminding of the magic of being in love, the words of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe adorn a wall on Tian'ai Road. \u003cbr/\u003eIn his 'Night Thoughts', from 1749, the German poet wrote: \"Since
