emergency supplies to  remote villages which have been subjected to severe drought.\u003cbr/\u003eOfficials say 271 people have died of famine as well as from diseases spread by  contaminated water.     \u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of fires - many of them deliberately lit by forestry and plantation companies to  clear land - have burned across Indonesia for months.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fires have razed at least 740-thousand acres (300,000 hectares).\u003cbr/\u003eUnconfirmed reports say that more than twice that may have been burnt.\u003cbr/\u003eWeather experts say El Nino, an abnormal weather pattern
