when police knocked on a house door during a security sweep in Sri Lanka's capital, the military said.\u003cbr/\u003ePolice officers were searching a neighbourhood in the northern part of Colombo for Tamil Tiger rebels suspected of infiltrating the capital and had just knocked on a door of a house at dawn when the blast was triggered inside, a military spokesman said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe blast killed the bomber and wounded seven people, including three police officers, the spokesman said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe spokesman said police searched the area based on information given by a suspect during questioning.\u003cbr/\u003eSri Lanka's military blamed the Tigers for the blast. \u003cbr/\u003eThe group could not immediately be reached for comment. \u003cbr/\u003eIt routinely denies responsibility for such attacks.\u003cbr/\u003eThree policemen and four civilians were being treated at Colombo National Hospital, said a doctor at the hospital.\u003cbr/\u003eAn Associated Press photographer at the scene saw what was believed to be the blown-off head of the suicide bomber on the concrete roof of the adjoining building.\u003cbr/\u003eAuthorities have stepped up security searches on buses and trains and in neighbourhoods of Colombo and other ethnic Sinhalese-majority areas after a series of bomb blasts killed about 90 civilians so far this year, according to the military.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Tamil Tigers have been blamed for more than 240 suicide attacks against political, military and economic targets during their long separatist campaign.\u003cbr/\u003eViolence has escalated on this Indian Ocean island since the government withdrew from a 2002 ceasefire with Tamil rebels last month.\u003cbr/\u003eTamil Tiger rebels have fought the government since 1983 to create a separate homeland for the country's ethnic minority Tamils.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than 70-thousand people have been killed in the
