The Mayor is expected to sign it, however, Mexican President Felipe Calderon has said he will challenge the bill in the courts.  (Dec. 22)\u003cbr/\u003e [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]  \u003cbr/\u003e  Lawmakers in Mexico City anxiously eyed the results of a contentious debate -- one that would legalize same-sex marriage.\u003cbr/\u003e  When the votes were cast, supporters of the bill had their victory.\u003cbr/\u003e  The bill passed 39 to 20, legalizing same-sex marriage in the Mexican capital.  The change will give homosexual couples more rights -- including allowing them to adopt children, open joint bank accounts, and inherit wealth.\u003cbr/\u003e  The bill changes how marriage is defined in the city's civil code. Right now, marriage is defined as the union of a man and a woman. Under this new law it will read the free uniting of two people.\u003cbr/\u003e  Mexico City's mayor is expected to sign the bill. When he does -- the city will become the first in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage.  Currently, only same-sex civil unions are legal in some parts of Latin America.\u003cbr/\u003e  Mexican President Felipe Calderon has vowed to challenge the gay marriage law in the courts.
