STILL: Manson and his employees\u003cbr/\u003eA Thai court on Monday started hearing a long legal battle between an American businessman and Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, over allegations of corruption in a cable television deal. \u003cbr/\u003eWilliam L. Monson, the owner of Seattle-based Clearview Cable TV company, filed a lawsuit against Prime Minister Thaksin for committing perjury. \u003cbr/\u003eThe criminal charge was over a business deal that dates back to the late 1980s. \u003cbr/\u003eThe lawsuit claimed Thaksin lied to a civil court during a trial on July 22, 1996.\u003cbr/\u003eMonson claims Thaksin, who was then starting to build his telecommunications empire, violated an agreement to jointly operate a cable television enterprise, seized transmission equipment from him and levied false criminal charges against Monson, his company and his staff.\u003cbr/\u003eBoth parties have filed several lawsuits against each other in Thailand and the United States.\u003cbr/\u003eMonson claims Thaksin lied to a civil court by calling him (Monson) an employee and alleging that Monson's company had stolen some equipment from their business deal.\u003cbr/\u003e\" I was the managing partner of our joint venture as well as the one that bought the equipment.
