The accounts were horrifying. There are a number of mass graves lending credibility to their accounts. Incidents of large scale extra-judicial executions of pre-Taliban period were also reported. The numbers of people executed in the last 23 years are staggering. In addition the spectre of impunity of the alleged extra-judicial executions of prisoners during the fall of the Taliban who are allegedly buried in Dasht-e-Leila is disturbing. Allegations of indiscriminate use of force by coalition forces in the villages of Uruzgan province during July 2002 are also a matter of grave concern.\" \u003cbr/\u003eNear Mazar-e-Sharif (Oct 19 ) \u003cbr/\u003e11. Clothing and bones on ground \u003cbr/\u003eLakhdar Brahimi, the Special envoy of the UN Secretary General in Afghanistan, visited a polio vaccination scheme in Kabul on Wednesday. \u003cbr/\u003eThe United Nations children's agency, UNICEF, launched a three-day campaign this week to vaccinate 5.9 million children against polio in Afghanistan.\u003cbr/\u003eAlso in Kabul, Asma Jahangir, the UN Special Representative on Human Rights, called for the establishment of an international commission of inquiry to document human rights abuses in Afghanistan.\u003cbr/\u003eShe said the number of people summarily executed in Afghanistan over the last 23 years of war was \"staggering.\"\u003cbr/\u003eJahangir said she'd heard \"horrifying\" accounts of men and woman who witnessed summary executions carried out by the former Taliban regime. But she also said large-scale killings had taken place before the Taliban and after.\u003cbr/\u003eShe pointed to the alleged killing by Northern Alliance troops of hundreds of Taliban prisoners last year while they were being transported in shipping containers.\u003cbr/\u003eShe also cited allegations of \"excessive use of force by coalition forces in villages in Uruzgan province\" in July 2002. \u003cbr/\u003eAfghan authorities claim 48 civilians were killed and 117 wounded when a US Air Force AC-130 gunship strafed five villages in Uruzgan, home to the extended families of wanted Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar.\u003cbr/\u003eJahangir said, however, rights abuses had decreased \"dramatically.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThe Pakistani lawyer made the comments at the end of a 10-day visit to Afghanistan which took her to Kandahar in the south, Mazar-e-Sharif in the north, and Herat in the west. \u003cbr/\u003eShe is due to submit a report detailing a list of summary or extrajudicial
