Bataille talking to reporter\u003cbr/\u003eA lawyer representing eight practicing Muslims who worked at the main Paris airport until their security clearance was revoked said on Tuesday \u003cbr/\u003ethat the cases were a stark example of discrimination against innocent Muslims caught up in security fears.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking at a news conference in Paris, the lawyer, Eric Moutet, questioned the way the authorities are handling the security measures.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It is normal in those areas that the authorities can investigate, can monitor and check. What we contest if the fact that one can revoke administrative authorisations, clearances, and badges without any reason,\" Moutet said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe eight, who include a security agent once praised for finding a weapon in a piece of luggage, are among 72 people who had their security badges revoked and lost their jobs at Charles de Gaulle airport over the past 18 months, \u003cbr/\u003eThe revoking of security badges is apparently part of a larger effort to rid Paris airports of anything potentially linked to Muslim extremism.\u003cbr/\u003eAbdelhamid Kalai, who worked as a baggage handler for seven years before being suspended last month, said he was asked his religious practices and trips that he had made.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Sometimes they accuse people because they're Muslims,\" said the 40-year-old father of three, who left his native Algeria in 1992. \"We pay for the others.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThirty-year-old Herve Bataille, a security guard who converted to Islam 10 years ago, received a commendation letter in March 2005 for finding a weapon in hand luggage at his security checkpoint at Charles de Gaulle. \u003cbr/\u003eA second letter praised his conduct during an airport visit by Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy a month later. Today, he is out of work.\u003cbr/\u003eBataille said that his job as a security guard meant that he tried to protect people from terrorism. \u003cbr/\u003e\"As a believer and a Muslim, saving people's life as it is said in the three main religions, if you save somebody's life it is as if you have saved the whole of humanity,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eBataille and others said they were questioned about their religion, how they practiced it, and whether they had made a pilgrimage to Mecca, Islam's holy site.\u003cbr/\u003eBataille and Kalai are among 11 people who have gone to court challenging the loss of their security clearance. \u003cbr/\u003eThe hearing is set for November 10. \u003cbr/\u003eAuthorities say the situation has arisen from the need for zero risk at Charles de Gaulle, where 90,000 people work. \u003cbr/\u003eSecurity concerns since the September 11 attacks were boosted after British officials in August foiled an alleged plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights.\u003cbr/\u003eThe office of Jacques Lebrot, deputy prefect responsible for airport security, said 72 airport workers in all had lost security clearance since May 2005, a majority of them for
