He also said his forces couldn't have faced up to the well-armed attackers by force.\u003cbr/\u003eAbdel-Al believed tendering his resignation would help the situation but now realises it only made things worse.\u003cbr/\u003eHe didn't elaborate on the reasons for his return to work. \u003cbr/\u003eA new government is expected to be named by the parliament in the coming weeks.\u003cbr/\u003eParliament questioned Abdel-Al over last weekend's attacks by ultraconservative Muslims against religious shrines across the country.\u003cbr/\u003eLawmakers asserted that the forces were infiltrated by backers of deposed dictator Moammar Gadhafi. \u003cbr/\u003eThey blamed Abdel-Al for the worsening security situation in the country, parts of which are controlled by rival groups with arms left over from last year's civil war.\u003cbr/\u003eThe newly elected National Congress has accused the interior ministry's Higher Security Committee of not being prepared and even went as far to accuse them on being behind the attacks of the shrines.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Higher Security Committee is partly made up of former rebels that fought against Gadhafi.\u003cbr/\u003eAbdel-Al said he did not order the Higher Security Committee to withdraw their troops following Saturday's attack on the Tripoli shrine.\u003cbr/\u003eThe attack was the latest in a string of assaults on Sufi places of worship, sparking fears of brewing sectarian troubles in a country without a strong central government and largely without a functioning police force or military.\u003cbr/\u003eUltraconservative Muslim hard-liners bulldozed a Sufi shrine and a mosque with tombs in Tripoli, a day after hard-liners in the city of Zliten bulldozed a 500-year-old shrine and library. In both incidents, security forces did not intervene.\u003cbr/\u003eSufism is a mystic Muslim order whose members revere saints and pray at their tombs, a practice respected and often followed by many moderate Muslims. \u003cbr/\u003eBut hard-liners view the practice as offensive and a form of idol worship.\u003cbr/\u003eAbdel-Al said the different views of Sufism would continue to cause problems.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This dispute revolves around people from both denominations implementing their views based on the manner of religious instruction they receive from their leaders.
