would violate a ban on secret advertising, audiovisual regulators say.\u003cbr/\u003eChristine Kelly, a member of the CSA, France's Superior Audiovisual Council said that the rules had been in place for nearly 20 years, so shouldn't come as a surprise to broadcasters.\u003cbr/\u003eThe ruling by the CSA, said that broadcasters could legally point viewers or listeners to their sites on generic \"social media\" but not specifically cite services like Facebook or Twitter.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever the CSA said on Monday that Facebook or Twitter could be cited but only when a report or programme merited a specific reference to those sites.\u003cbr/\u003eSome French bloggers pilloried the decision, suggesting it was another sign that France was too inflexible to innovations brought by the Internet..\u003cbr/\u003eThe 27 May ruling, which came in response to a query from an unspecified broadcaster, went largely unnoticed in traditional media until French bloggers picked up on it.\u003cbr/\u003eIt came soon after President Nicolas Sarkozy hosted Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckberberg and other Internet magnates for a conference on how much to regulate the online world.\u003cbr/\u003eFrance has long had a reputation as tough on cyberspace, notably in efforts to protect copyrights. \u003cbr/\u003eThe CSA, created in 1989, is charged with ensuring fairness on French audiovisual communication, such as TV time granted political candidates, and with the protection of children from some types of
