Either one of the polar regions seems to be really interesting for a number of reasons. One, there's a near continuous solar light at the poles, so it makes solar power quite attractive for powering your lunar base. there, in efforts to build a lunar space station. \u003cbr/\u003eScientists are working on two models at the Johnson Space Centre in Houston, Texas, that will lay the foundations for a new type of lunar exploration, allowing astronauts to stay on the moon's surface for weeks or even months. \u003cbr/\u003eVeteran astronaut and lunar project member Don Pettit said there was more to be discovered on the moon, and the project would be a step towards  NASA's long-term goals of sending humans to Mars.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We have barely scratched the surface scientifically and preserved in the lunar the early 2020s.\u003cbr/\u003eInside the lunar home will be living quarters, a kitchen and crew exercise facilities, as well as room for scientific instruments and collection storage areas.\u003cbr/\u003eLunar habitat expert, Larry Toups, said NASA was trying to develop a station which would allow astronauts to \"come and go over periods of time.\"\u003cbr/\u003eNASA says the initial missions would be designed for a week, and as the homestead is constructed, initial outpost missions may span an entire lunar month - or 28 Earth days.\u003cbr/\u003ePermanent crew rotations could grow to as long as six months the space agency said. \u003cbr/\u003eAlso high on NASA lunar list the next generation propulsion system that will ferry both astronauts and their lunar home to the moon's surface.\u003cbr/\u003eInitially, this may be a space craft similar to the original lunar module sent to the moon. \u003cbr/\u003eOn July 20, 1969 Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were
