Various of corsets used by Frida Kahlo   \u003cbr/\u003eFrida Kahlo's wardrobe is going on display in Mexico City after being locked away for nearly 50 years in her armoires and dressers.\u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibit is called \"Appearances Can Be Deceiving: The Dresses of Frida Kahlo\" and will open to the public at the Casa Azul on November 24, at the House of Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera that has subsequently been turned into a museum.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter Kahlo died in 1954, her husband ordered her clothes to be locked up for 15 years. \u003cbr/\u003eHe died three years later, leaving art collector Dolores Olmedo as the manager of his and Kahlo's houses and she refused to give access to Kahlo's archives of letters, clothes, jewellery and photographs. They were not unlocked until 2004, after Olmedo died.\u003cbr/\u003e\"When we talk about Frida Kahlo, she has left enduring impressions in our minds through her work, but also through her persona,\" said the exhibit curator Circe Henestrosa. \u003cbr/\u003eHenestrosa stressed the exhibit was about Frida as a woman and was \"not an exhibit of her paintings\".   \u003cbr/\u003eThe Tehuana dress, named after Indian women of that region, was Kahlo's signature piece of clothing. She wore it with large gold earrings and flowers in her braided hair. \u003cbr/\u003eDai Rees, from London College of Fashion, praised her decision to \"do something anti-fashion\".  \u003cbr/\u003e\"She chose to be a feminist point of view of how she wanted to be represented as a woman, as opposed to other woman of that period who were being controlled by men in fashion,\" Rees explained.  \u003cbr/\u003eKahlo's turbulent life included a traffic accident in her late teens which caused lifelong health problems, the countless affairs of her husband, the muralist Diego Rivera, miscarriages and the assassination of her lover, Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky.\u003cbr/\u003eHer life has inspired countless plays and films, including Julie Taymor's 2002 biopic \"Frida,\"
