Zoom out from mountains to woodland\u003cbr/\u003eForget countryside hotels and adventure parks.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the woodlands of Catalonia in Spain, those wanting to emulate Tarzan and Jane can now sleep in a tree.\u003cbr/\u003eA tree top haven nestling in the Spanish countryside.\u003cbr/\u003eEco-tourism is taking off here, and local entrepreneurs are coming up with innovative ideas to lure in their guests.\u003cbr/\u003eAt \"Cabanes als Arbres\" (Catalan for Cabins on top of the trees) visitors are able to spend a night in close contact with nature, by sleeping in a tree house.\u003cbr/\u003eThe cabins perched on top of pine and fir trees are located in the woods at the foot of Montseny, some 68 kilometres (42 miles) north of Barcelona.\u003cbr/\u003eEach cabin is 30 square metres and is equipped with a double bed, two single beds, toilet and washing facilities, as well as a small living room.\u003cbr/\u003eCarlos and Isabel Morato are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in the cabin.\u003cbr/\u003e\"For our 25th wedding anniversary my wife gave me this surprise. So we've come to this cabin that is perfectly integrated in the wilderness, the wood and that has given us an extraordinary relaxation,\" says Carlos.\u003cbr/\u003eThe stay in the tree cabin is designed to be as eco-friendly as possible.\u003cbr/\u003eAll waste from the toilet as well as the water from the basin are deposited in a biodegradable bag that is later buried in the wood and used as organic compost.\u003cbr/\u003eIsabel Morato says she is happy to see the way the toilet is designed in order to have a minimal impact on nature.\u003cbr/\u003e\"From using the toilet to washing our face and hands, everything is taken care of. I am very happy to observe the way the cabin coexists with the wood,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eThis tree house is about to be lifted into its new leafy home.\u003cbr/\u003eManu Grymonpre, co owner of \"Cabanes als arbres\", checks that everything is in place.\u003cbr/\u003eSince his childhood Manu has been fond of tree houses.\u003cbr/\u003eNow he designs and constructs these cabins.\u003cbr/\u003eHe spent many years travelling Europe and America investigating techniques applied to the construction of tree cabins.\u003cbr/\u003eNot fully convinced by what he saw, he decided to create his own process.\u003cbr/\u003eMost cabin houses are built by lifting the materials to the top of the tree where they are finally assembled.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Manu builds his cabins at the foot of three and, once it is finished, lifts the structure with a crane until it reaches the desired altitude.\u003cbr/\u003eThe cabin is then attached to its position using a steel axe inserted through the tree trunk.\u003cbr/\u003eFour steel wires attached to the axe support the weight of the house.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says that the only live part of a tree trunk is its external surface whereas the wood inside it is already dead.\u003cbr/\u003eHence boring a hole inside the trunk poses no threat to the life of the tree.\u003cbr/\u003eOnce the cabin is finished and lifted to its final altitude the tree feels no stress and accepts the cabin like humans do with a piercing, he says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I bore a hole in the tree and through that hole I insert the axe that supports the cabin. But in the end the tree accepts the charge of the cabin like our body accepts a piercing in the ear or the nose.\" \u003cbr/\u003eManu's wife Karin van Veen was the one who came up with the tree house business idea.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says that her idea behind their business is to allow people to achieve their childhood dream of becoming Tarzan or Robinson Crusoe as well as learning to develop a greater love of nature.\u003cbr/\u003e\"When you spend the whole night with the tree in your room, then you just feel small and you feel the importance of your tree. And then it's the first step to change a bit the acts of the way to live and respect nature,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eEvery morning Karin prepares the breakfast service.\u003cbr/\u003eThe meal is placed in a basket and then driven to the cabins.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the cabin, the baskets are attached to a cord and the guests can lift their meal with a pulley.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen Daniel Delgado heard bout the cabins he decided to spend a weekend up a tree without any of the modern comforts such as mobile phone network, internet access or even electricity.\u003cbr/\u003eDaniel says that he and his girlfriend were astonished to spend the night with no other sound than the owls singing and the wind blowing through the pine trees.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd to top it off, there's the subtle rocking of the cabin, a sensation similar to being inside a boat, he says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The difference is huge. A very special sensation,\" says Daniel.\u003cbr/\u003eManu and Karin also own an adventure park perched atop trees, where guests can stretch the Tarzan experience a few steps forward.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Spanish region of Catalonia has some of the largest areas of woodland in Europe.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Cabanes als Arbres\" have five cabins in service, and five more will complete this first stage of the project. \u003cbr/\u003eThe cabins cost around a hundred Euros (approx. $150 USD) per couple per night and include breakfast. \u003cbr/\u003eKeyword
