It's not about just antiques but mixing the antiques with the other styles that you are attracted to" .
Laurent Rebuffel is another co-chair of the event and also owner of Habite, a store in Los Angeles that stocks furniture from the 1960's and 1970's as well as antiques, with all are meant to blend in line with today's 'mixing' trend.
"People have realised that quality can mix with quality from different periods. It was something that was done in the 1970's where you could see a piece of contemporary furniture next to an 18th century French commode or an Italian credenza or we are back to that. For us we mix things all the time. In our booth we have an 18th century consol next to a 1970s lounge chair for Ligne Roset so a piece of quality design from 18th, 19th, 20th or 21st century such as what is on the floor right now, if you put them together and they are really will designed and well made, they work together" says Rebuffel.
Also up for sale are rare antique fine jewellery pieces from all over the world, contemporary furniture and pieces, from Korea, Portugal and France, classic Hollywood furniture designs in the 1930's and 1940's, French 1970s pieces, and 18th and 19th century English and French furniture.
Blanche Moss is vetter and judge for the show. She is the one who gives the guarantee to the buyer to ensure what they are purchasing is authentic: "This is a quality show and they have to stand behind what the dealers are selling and we as vetters, and I'm a folk art vetter, with two other people, we look at the folk art and make sure that the description that the dealer has is accurate. If a piece is restored we want to see that on the label. If a piece is repainted, we want to see that on the label because all this affects the price" says Moss.
Today, experts agree that some of the best buys in antiques are 18th century Italian or French pieces because prices are lower than ever while prices for 20th century objects are high, as mid century modern styles remains popular.
Stephen Schwartz, owner of Stephens Antiques of Tiberoun, California says that a big trend right now in antique artifacts is Champleve (gold with ceramic) from 1870 to 1920. He says the clocks are especially hot: "The Champleve enamel pieces that were made in France in the third quarter of the 19th century are extremely hot.
