October.\u003cbr/\u003eThe press were asked to leave the courtroom when Sarah Balabagan prepared to testify on the alleged rape attempt by her 85-year-old employer, which she says forced her to kill him in self-defence.\u003cbr/\u003eSarah's case has become a 'cause celebre' in the Philippines where thousands are rallying behind her and demanding her freedom.\u003cbr/\u003eA somber beginning to the day for Sarah Balabagan's family -- seen here leaving the Philippine embassy, for the first day in court of her second appeal case.\u003cbr/\u003e4-year-old Samara came out clutching a photograph of her older sister.\u003cbr/\u003eSarah is 16, but came to the Emirates with a forged passport showing her age as 29, leading her to be  tried and sentenced to death as an adult.\u003cbr/\u003eShe is appealing against her death sentence for the murder of her employer, 85-year-old Almas Mohammed al-Baloushi.\u003cbr/\u003eShe claims that she stabbed him as he attempted to rape her.\u003cbr/\u003eThe appeal hearing took place in Al-Ain, the sleepy oasis town where Balabagan was employed as a maid.\u003cbr/\u003eThe sixteen-year-old was led into the courtroom in handcuffs.\u003cbr/\u003eThe judge ordered spectators and journalists to leave when Balabagan -- a Muslim from the southern Philippines city of Cotabato -- prepared to give details of the alleged rape attempt.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter an hour-long hearing, the court adjourned to the end of the month.\u003cbr/\u003eBalabagan's defence lawyers say the crux of their defence lies in exposing flaws in the previous trial.\u003cbr/\u003eBalabagan's case has become a cause celebre -- both in the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates.\u003cbr/\u003eIt has aroused strong feelings of resentment in the U-A-E, where some people feel the justice system is being overridden by international pressure.\u003cbr/\u003eNot long after Balabagan left the court house, police entered and plastered a billboard with seven large photographs of the victim lying in a pool of blood.\u003cbr/\u003eThere was no immediate explanation of the police action -- but television crews were allowed to photograph
