Toyota Motor Corp. is a shareholder in the American company, recently investing $50 million in Tesla stock, and signing a $60 million contract to have Tesla help develop an electric version of Toyota's RAV4 crossover vehicle. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Tesla cars have many components which are made in Japan including the batteries which are made by Panasonic. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd while the price for electronic vehicles is likely to come down, a major drawback remains the lack of recharging stations, which make them risky for long journeys. \u003cbr/\u003eYu says that the infrastructure has been around for many years to support EV (electric vehicles) as a simple electric plug is all that is needed to recharge the roadster.\u003cbr/\u003e\"People like to ask when will the charging infrastructure for the Roadster, or the XYZ electric car ... when will that be ready? Also, Japanese awareness towards the environment is growing and electric vehicles could be an answer for the future.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Tesla Roadster made by the California-based Tesla Motors Inc. has so far globally sold only 1,400 of the electric cars - which start at $101,500 in the U.S. (and 1.5 times that in Japan). \u003cbr/\u003ePrices have not been announced yet.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Japan, electric vehicles are tax-free and eligible for government incentive cash payments that can reduce the price tag by a quarter of the retail price. \u003cbr/\u003eTesla's ecological government-backed rebate in Japan is a hefty 3.2 million yen ($40,000).\u003cbr/\u003eMore affordable electric vehicles are on the market already, such as the iMiEV from Mitsubishi Motors Corp., although sales at about 4,000 vehicles, mostly in Japan, still make a tiny fraction of overall auto sales.\u003cbr/\u003eAlready showing wider appeal is Nissan Motor Co.'s Leaf electric car, set for delivery in December. Its price in Japan is about 3 million yen ($37,000) with incentives, and about $25,000 in the U.S. with federal tax credits.\u003cbr/\u003eNissan has received 20,000 orders for the Leaf in the U.S., and 6,000 in Japan.\u003cbr/\u003eOn October 8 Tesla Motors recalled 439 Roadsters in the US from the 2010 model year to address potential fire hazards connected to battery cables.\u003cbr/\u003eThe government's auto safety agency said the recall involves Roadster 2.0 and 2.5 vehicles with a 12-volt auxiliary cable. The cable may be routed improperly, and that could cause the wire to become exposed.\u003cbr/\u003eContact between the bare wire and carbon fibre could lead to a short-circuit and a fire in the right
