Wide of al-Najdawi in his office\u003cbr/\u003eOne of Saddam Hussein's lawyers on Monday defended the defence team's decision to boycott the former Iraqi leader's genocide trial indefinitely, accusing the judges of violating the law.\u003cbr/\u003eThe boycott announced on Sunday did not halt Saddam's second trial, just as a similar walkout had no effect on his first, since the chief judge said he would appoint replacements after the lawyers stormed out of court last week.\u003cbr/\u003eZiad al-Najdawi told AP Television that the decision was made because of the judges refusal to allow the enter the courtroom, according to the lawyer.\u003cbr/\u003eAmong Saddam's nine lawyers are a Jordanian, a Spaniard, a Frenchman and two Americans, including former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark.\u003cbr/\u003eAl-Najdawi said the defence team would reconsider the boycott decision if the response to the lawyers requests were met.\u003cbr/\u003eElaborating  he said, \"to let the Arab announcing the boycott, Khalil al-Dulaimi, Saddam's chief lawyer, also complained that last week's decision to replace chief judge Abdullah al-Amiri violated judicial rules.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite the lawyers walkout, the trial resumed on Monday, with the chief judge throwing the ex-president out of the courtroom in a stormy session.\u003cbr/\u003eThe stormy hearing was later adjourned until Tuesday after the court heard three Kurdish give testimony in the case.\u003cbr/\u003eThe boycott could raise further questions about the court, which already was under fire over the replacement of the first chief judge after some Iraqis accused him of allegedly favouring the defence.\u003cbr/\u003eSaddam and seven others have been on trial since August 21 for a crackdown on Kurdish guerrillas and the Kurdish population at large, known as the Anfal, in the late 1980s. \u003cbr/\u003eThe prosecution says about 180-thousand people, mostly civilians, died in attacks that included the use of poison gas against Kurdish towns and villages in northern Iraq. \u003cbr/\u003eSaddam could face execution if convicted of genocide.\u003cbr/\u003eThe defence also boycotted the final stages of Saddam's first trial, for his alleged role in the deaths of 148 Shiite Muslims in Dujail following a\u003cbr/\u003e1982 assassination attempt against him in the town.\u003cbr/\u003eA verdict in that trial, which began October 19, 2005, is expected when the court reconvenes next month. \u003cbr/\u003eBoth trials of the former president have been marred by controversy. \u003cbr/\u003eThree defence lawyers in the Dujail case were murdered and a fourth fled the country, raising defence complaints about inadequate security.\u003cbr/\u003eThe first chief judge in the Dujail trial resigned last
