Shouting \"No tears for Krauts\", they stormed Dresden's...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eGerman/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eLeft-wing demonstrators shouting anti-nationalist slogans disrupted the central commemorative event of the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Dresden on Monday. \u003cbr/\u003eShouting \"No tears for Krauts\", they stormed Dresden's Kulturpalast (Culture Palace), where German President Roman Herzog was due to make a speech.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier, Allied and German military leaders attended a wreath laying ceremony at a cemetery outside Dresden, where most of the victims of the two-day Allied raids are buried.\u003cbr/\u003eA large, peaceful crowd surrounded the entrance to Dresden's Kulturpalast as German President Roman Herzog and Britain's Duke of Kent arrived for a sombre ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Dresden bombings.\u003cbr/\u003eBut shortly after their arrival, the solemn atmosphere was disrupted by anti-nationalist demonstrators. \u003cbr/\u003eShouting \"Never again German Nationalism\", they managed to get inside the hall.\u003cbr/\u003eThey dropped leaflets saying the ceremonies surrounding the anniversary of the attack on Dresden were a misrepresentation of history. \u003cbr/\u003eThe protesters feel it's wrong to portray Germans as victims rather than perpetrators of some of the worst atrocities of recent history.\u003cbr/\u003eSeveral of the protesters were arrested by police inside the foyer of the hall.\u003cbr/\u003eProtests against the anniversary celebrations have otherwise been limited to small groups of peaceful protesters holding banners.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier, up to two thousand people attended the wreath laying ceremony at Heidehof cemetery near Dresden to remember those killed in the February 13 Allied air raid.\u003cbr/\u003eEmotions ran high, even 50 years after the event.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (In German) \u003cbr/\u003e\"We are always here on the 13th and especially wanted to be here again today.
