As you would expect, we did talk about Iraq as we have all week long and I'm pleased, and I think my colleagues in the P-5 are pleased, that we are seeing some convergence of views with respect to a new resolution and we will be working on language in the days ahead that tries to capture as much of that convergence as possible and to see what we are able to come to agreement on. We also had a good discussion on the role of the Secretary General and his representatives in the political process in Iraq and how it should be captured in a resolution, and reference was made to the report that the Secretary General gave to the Security Council earlier in the summer which lays out some responsibilities which could be taken on by the Secretary General and of course 14-83 also laid out some responsibilities for the Secretary General and his representatives. We also talked about the Middle East and as you know there will be a Quartet meeting tomorrow (Friday). We believe firmly in the concept of the road map and it is still there. But we are waiting for the Palestinian side to determine the new makeup of its new government so we have a partner we can work with so we will review the situation tomorrow and you will hear a statement from the Quartet after our meeting tomorrow.\"   \u003cbr/\u003e3. Powell leaves \u003cbr/\u003eUS Secretary of State Colin Powell claimed some success on Thursday in forging a consensus at the United\u003cbr/\u003eNations on nation-building in Iraq.    \u003cbr/\u003e\"We are seeing some convergence of views,\" Powell said.\u003cbr/\u003eHe added that in the days head, the Bush administration will be \"looking at language\" to alter a proposed US resolution that has been stalemated by objections that the United States was not willing to yield sufficient authority to the United Nations.\u003cbr/\u003ePowell made his move to break the stalemate at a luncheon with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the foreign\u003cbr/\u003eministers of Britain, France, Russia and China. \u003cbr/\u003eHe also met with members of the US-appointed Iraq Governing Council.\u003cbr/\u003ePowell said there had also been fruitful discussions on the future role of the United Nations in Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eThe five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - known as the P5 - also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the faltering 'road map' to peace in the region, which Powell said was \"still there\".\u003cbr/\u003eBut he added that the Palestinians had to determine the makeup of its new government before talks could proceed.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the Quartet of international mediators in the Middle East - the United
