We must do something.\"\u003cbr/\u003eOn January 30th 2013 former US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who suffered a severe head wound in a 2011 shooting spree, urged Congress to act to curb gun violence in the country.\u003cbr/\u003eGiffords, with her husband Mark Kelly by her side, appeared as an unscheduled witness at the year's first Congressional hearing on curbing gun violence.\u003cbr/\u003eIn halting words, she acknowledged that speaking was hard for her, but said, \"Violence is a big problem\".\u003cbr/\u003e\"Too many children are dying,\" she repeated, before urging the members of Congress to \"be bold, be courageous\".\u003cbr/\u003e\"Americans are counting on you,\" she added.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Arizona Democrat was badly injured in a shooting massacre in Tuscon, Arizona, in which six people were killed. \u003cbr/\u003eShe underwent a lengthy rehabilitation process and has regained some ability to speak, but retired from Congress. \u003cbr/\u003eGiffords and her husband, a retired astronaut, have formed a political action committee called Americans for Responsible Solutions to back lawmakers who support tighter gun restrictions. \u003cbr/\u003eGifford's appearance on January 30th added drama to a session that was already slated to hear from a top official of the National Rifle Association (NRA). \u003cbr/\u003eThe dramatic juxtaposition between the NRA and a famous shooting victim set the stage for the hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, whose own members are divided. \u003cbr/\u003eThe conflicting approaches among the lawmakers are a microcosm of the divisive debate at large that gun limits will face on their way through Congress.\u003cbr/\u003eJanuary 30th's hearing is a response to the December 14th shooting rampage that killed 20 pupils and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary (Primary) School in Newtown, Connecticut, and transformed gun control into a
