Piere-Henri Bunel descending stairs with policemen \u003cbr/\u003eThe decorated French Military Veteran, Pierre-Henri Bunel was condemned to five years in prison by a Military Tribunal in Paris on Wednesday afternoon. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Tribunal found Bunel guilty of treason after having decided he leaked NATO bombing secrets to Belgrade during the Kosovo crisis three years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eBunel, trained as an expert in the Arab world, was one of four French soldiers decorated by U.S. General Norman Schwarzkopf for their roles in the 1991 Gulf War. \u003cbr/\u003eBunel served as a translator.\u003cbr/\u003eBunel, now retired, was put under investigation and locked up temporarily in October 1998, before being released in August 1999 on orders from a Paris court.\u003cbr/\u003eWednesday's Military Tribunal found Brunel guilty of having passed on secret NATO documents to a Brussels-based Serbian agent working for the then Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Tribunal decided that the 49 year old military veteran had acted of his own accord and not on orders from French Intelligence, as Bunel had claimed on Tuesday.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Public Prosecutor, Janine Stern and the defendant's lawyer, Eric Najsztat, both agreed that M. Bunel's psychological frailty and his professional frustrations had pushed him into overstepping the boundaries of his allotted task of sending out warning signals to the Yugoslavian regime.\u003cbr/\u003eOn leaving the courtroom after having learned the Tribunal's verdict, Bunel said that he had committed an error but that it was \"a professional error\" and that he \"wouldn't consider it a betrayal.\" He said the trial had taught him \"a lot about himself\".\u003cbr/\u003eNATO began air strikes in the spring of 1999 in Yugoslavia. \u003cbr/\u003eThe alliance opened the war to force Milosevic to end a crackdown on ethnic Albanians that killed at least 10 thousand people.\u003cbr/\u003eMilosevic, who was voted out of office in October 2000, is now on trial for alleged war
