Jackson on cover of music magazine\u003cbr/\u003eNearly a month after his arrest, Michael Jackson is expected to be charged in the next few days in a child molestation case.\u003cbr/\u003eAs the legal battle swirls around  the scandal-ridden star, so does speculation about the fate of Jackson's once fabulous career.\u003cbr/\u003eMany people now believe the crown has slipped from the head of the King of Pop with the latest claims of inappropriate behaviour with children.\u003cbr/\u003eSome entertainment insiders are saying the latest charges against Jackson will taint the pop star's image for good, even as the most loyal fans stand by their man.\u003cbr/\u003eWhat isn't in question by most is Jackson's track record as one of the most successful pop music artists ever. \u003cbr/\u003eHis breakout album \"Thriller\" some two decades ago set a standard for music sales worldwide, becoming one of the top-selling albums of all time. \u003cbr/\u003eIt also helped kick-start the emerging video music industry in the early 1980's. \u003cbr/\u003eJackson's career rocketed to megastardom placing him at the the pinnacle of the pop pyramid. \u003cbr/\u003eThe 45-year-old singer, who also had international hits with the albums  \"Bad\" (1987) and \"Dangerous\" (1991), saw his career begin to collapse in 1993 amid allegations he molested a boy, which were settled-out-of-court  with a settlement rumoured to be in excess of $10 (m) million.\u003cbr/\u003eHis next record, the 1995 double-CD set \"HIStory Past, Present and Future, Book 1,\" a collection of post-Motown hits and new songs, sold a modest 2.5 million units. Jackson's 1991 studio release, \"Dangerous,\" his last album before child sex-abuse allegations surfaced, sold nearly twice that in the United States. \u003cbr/\u003eBut fast-forward to December 2003 and the legendary artist facing career meltdown. \u003cbr/\u003eFinancially the star who made hundreds of millions of dollars is now reported to be deply in debt and his latest album \"Number Ones,\" has made little impact on the U.S charts, though it has sold better in Europe. \u003cbr/\u003eIndeed, Jackson's allies say the talent is still there and will serve Jackson well among his fans, especially those outside the US in Europe and Asia.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Michael Levine, a publicist and media consultant to Hollywood celebrities, says the latest allegations and media coverage, along with the damaging British documentary earlier this year, are the death knell for the embattled entertainers flagging career.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think history will regard him as probably the most single most self-destructive artist in the history of Hollywood.
