in the United States they even have a name -  the \"recessionistas\".\u003cbr/\u003eMoney is too tight to mention, but here in California thrift is thriving.\u003cbr/\u003eIn fact it's a booming business as more and more people look to cut costs and stay fashionable in financially troubled times.\u003cbr/\u003eYou can find it all, whether it's bowling shirts and jeans, or a sparkly dress in thrift stores.\u003cbr/\u003e'The Wasteland' is one of a number of thrift stores which are flourishing.\u003cbr/\u003eBuyer Brent Freaney says sales are brisk because many people are coming in sell off their old clothing to subsidise new purchases. \u003cbr/\u003eFreaney thinks that the economy is prompting more people to be broad minded when it comes to the idea of buying second hand.\u003cbr/\u003eEven designer labels are becoming more accessible as the recession spurs us on to clean out our cupboards according to Billy Jackson the owner of Sequels a second hand Beverley Hills boutique.\u003cbr/\u003eThe racks here have dazzling red-carpet gowns.\u003cbr/\u003eThe prices are still high, but nowhere near as much as you'd pay in top stores for the new season's fashion.\u003cbr/\u003eAt Ravishing Resale regulars come to both buy and sell.\u003cbr/\u003eShop owner Marushka says people realise it's a good way to generate extra cash and she's careful to only stock the most well kept items.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is definitely the high end of second hand thrift.\u003cbr/\u003eBut if you're not planning on trotting down the red carpet, you can find trendy street fashion at a grittier thrift store like 'The Goodwill' in San Francisco.\u003cbr/\u003eOver ten million kilogrammes (1.7 million stones) of items are donated to 'The Goodwill' every year, most of it clothing.\u003cbr/\u003eStaff here are specially trained to recognise high-value brands and luxury fabrics like cashmere, silk and angora hair by touch. \u003cbr/\u003eGood quality items are sent to its best boutique stores.\u003cbr/\u003e'Goodwill' spokesman James David says the store is seeing fashionable young people trying the store for the first time.\u003cbr/\u003eSome of the new generation of thrift shop shoppers can be found here at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.\u003cbr/\u003eStudents, especially fashion students with small wallets, love to shop at thrift stores.\u003cbr/\u003eAmy Williams, chair woman of the College's fashion programme says thrift stores offers people a way to develop creative and  unique  wardrobes without wasting money on overpriced items. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says thrift also encourages people to become more adventurous and put together different styles instead of sticking to one  specific look. \u003cbr/\u003eWhen image is
