Nat sound Nikki singing in studio (Fogo Labs)\u003cbr/\u003eA child prot�g� has people talking in Canada. \u003cbr/\u003e13 year old Nikki Yanofsky sings the songs of jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, with a similar soulfulness and a very unusual voice for someone her age. \u003cbr/\u003eA powerful voice, an odd taste in music for a teenager, and a sound that has you expecting a 50 year old Jazz singer - that's Nikki Yanofsky, the 13 year old Canadian child singing protege.\u003cbr/\u003eWith an inflection that Jazz experts say it very hard to teach, the local press has caught on and has been touting her as Quebec's own musical star. \u003cbr/\u003eYanofsky doesn't spend her time as a grade 8 student trying on lipstick with girlfriends, instead she scats and listens to the Jazz greats such as her favourite Ella Fitzgerald. \u003cbr/\u003eBorn in Montr�al in 1994 - Yanofsky began singing when just two years old. \u003cbr/\u003eShe caught the attention of Jazz concert promoters last year, who booked her for the largest jazz festival in North America, The Montreal International Jazz Festival.\u003cbr/\u003e32 year veteran Canadian concert promoter Rubin Fogel, president of Rubin fogel productions, believes she is special.\u003cbr/\u003eYanofksy also appeared on a major local French Canadian variety show. That's when people took notice again.\u003cbr/\u003eIn June 2007 - she became the youngest singer at the 2007 Montreal International Jazz Festival, opening for the Neville brothers.\u003cbr/\u003eThe press ran with it and the curiosity began  - who is this 13 year old?\u003cbr/\u003eManager and father Richard Yanofsky says the voice doesn't match the years and he believes his daughter has an uncanny memory and ear for a tune. \u003cbr/\u003eCousin Sydney Wiseman, 18, recalls Nikki belting out songs as a very young girl.\u003cbr/\u003eYanofsky's vocal coach Nancy Martinez says Nikki's talent is a rare thing.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier this year, Yanofsky completed recording 'Airmail Special' (released June 5, 2007) on a tribute album for Ella Fitzgerlad, \"We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song\". Other artists on the CD include Etta James, Queen Latifah, Chaka Chan and Gladys Knight.\u003cbr/\u003eWorld concert impresario Donald K Donald says raw talent is only part of it. \u003cbr/\u003eHe
