military ties.\u003cbr/\u003eOlmert was also expected to discuss Iran's nuclear programme during his visit, which includes meetings with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Commerce Minister Bo Xilai.\u003cbr/\u003eHe is scheduled to attend a ceremony for the \"China-Israel Cooperation Centre for Modern Dairy Technology\" and visit a construction site for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, according to the Israeli Embassy in Beijing.\u003cbr/\u003eThe trip marks the 15-year anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, whose relations have been marred by occasional political and trade tensions.\u003cbr/\u003eIn 2000, China was incensed when Israel gave in to US pressure to cancel the sale of sophisticated PHALCON reconnaissance aircraft to Beijing. \u003cbr/\u003eMore recently, Israel aborted a deal to upgrade drone aircraft sold to China, again under pressure from the US.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile, China upset Israel last year, when it invited the Palestinian foreign minister - a top official of the Hamas group - to attend a conference on China-Arab relations in Beijing.\u003cbr/\u003eBut officials do not expect these differences to cloud the visit. \u003cbr/\u003eLast week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said he hoped Olmert's trip would further deepen the \"profound friendship\" shared between the Chinese and Israeli people.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Israeli Embassy said Olmert and Wen will attend a signing ceremony of \"bilateral agreements in various fields,\" but did not give any details.\u003cbr/\u003eOlmert is likely to raise the sensitive issue of Iran's nuclear program. \u003cbr/\u003eIsrael accuses Iran of developing nuclear weapons and has supported efforts by the United Nations Security Council - where China is one of the five permanent members - to impose sanctions against the Iranians. \u003cbr/\u003eTehran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother potentially sticky topic could be China's role as an arms supplier to Iran. \u003cbr/\u003eIsrael has said that Chinese-made weapons were used by Hezbollah guerrillas in last summer's war in southern Lebanon, including an anti-ship cruise missile that was fired at an Israeli vessel on July 14, 2006, killing four servicemen.\u003cbr/\u003eChina is Israel's third largest trading partner, following the United States and Germany. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce, Israeli exports to China jumped 31 percent to 740 (m) million US dollars (euro 565 (m) million) in the first 11 months of last year, compared to 565 (m) million (euro 432 (m) million US dollars) the previous year. \u003cbr/\u003eImports also rose 29
