Tilt up of i.Dummy\u003cbr/\u003eA research team in Hong Kong has revolutionised the fashion mannequin by creating one which can change clothes' size.\u003cbr/\u003eThe length, curve and dimension of the intelligent dummy, or i.Dummy, can be altered according to the customer's shape.\u003cbr/\u003eDr Allan Chan is trying to button up this jacket on the mannequin but it does not fit.\u003cbr/\u003eSo rather than changing the jacket, Chan is changing the mannequin.\u003cbr/\u003eThe mannequin, which is able to change its shape and size, has been developed by a research team at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.\u003cbr/\u003eI.Dummy, as it is known, can change from a UK 6 to a UK 16 ( US 4 - 14).\u003cbr/\u003eThe dimensions of a traditional fixed-size mannequin cannot be changed and so fashion designers need to keep various sizes in stock. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the robotic mannequin can automatically turn bigger or slimmer by putting measurements into a designated programme. \u003cbr/\u003eUsers can also alter the mannequin's shape via Bluetooth technology on smartphone. \u003cbr/\u003eDr Allan Chan is the Associate Professor of Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says the mannequin can be whatever size you would like it to be.\u003cbr/\u003e\"So, 'i' stands for intelligent and basically you set the measurement that you want and it changes to the shape, the proportion that you want. It allows us to easily just put in the information and then I can work directly on the dummy.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHe says he thinks the invention will be a breakthrough in the industry and will help him and other designers lower their designing costs.\u003cbr/\u003eSmart mannequins may also help designers open themselves up to new markets. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the past, local designers could not easily get business from oversea customers who was looking for tailor-made clothes as the buyer could not try on the clothes after they were made for fittings. \u003cbr/\u003eWith the help of i.Dummy, customers will simply need to send their measurements to the designer and the i.Dummy can try their clothes on for them, as Li says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"When we finished the product, we can just take a photo, and put it on the i.Dummy, we can visualise how the garment form when the customer put on because the i.Dummy is exactly tuned according to their size.
