With her hip movements, she forever changed the Mexican nightlife in the 1950s, then used to fully dressed \"rumberas\".\u003cbr/\u003eNow in her 80's, Montes recreates her success through dozens of photographs hanging on the walls in her Mexico City house, where she appears with famous personalities such as Celia Cruz, Octavio Paz and Maria Felix.\u003cbr/\u003eWith her distinctive white patch of hair untouched, \"Tongolele\" lives surrounded by paintings portraying her sculptural body and intense blue eyes.\u003cbr/\u003eBorn in Spokane, Washington, in 1932, Yolanda Montes was offered a job in Mexico at the age of 15 and became a professional dancer.\u003cbr/\u003eThe then-conservative Mexico was blushed by the Tahitian movements and suggestive dresses of \"Tongolele.\" The Decency League attacked her show, calling it \"inappropriate.\"\u003cbr/\u003eNonetheless, she became a star in the most famous clubs of Mexico. Her fame quickly reached cinema, starring in films like \"Nocturno de amor\" and \"La mujer de otro.\"\u003cbr/\u003eShe worked along with some of the most famous Mexican actors at the time, like Pedro Infante, but she says she refused to marry them because she wouldn't give up dancing. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I knew that if I got married I would instantly be removed from dancing, even though they (referring to men) said no. I saw this happening to other artists.
