The technology is bringing a whole new vibe to dinner parties, enabling strangers to meet around gourmet food in the homes of...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eIt's a twist on the traditional dinner party.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is the \"CookApp\" - which is causing a stir in Buenos Aires. \u003cbr/\u003eThe technology is bringing a whole new vibe to dinner parties, enabling strangers to meet around gourmet food in the homes of amateur cooks and independent chefs. \u003cbr/\u003eCookApp is a website and smartphone application fostering a cottage industry of in-home, pop-up diners, using social media to make these events much easier for cooks to manage and diners to enjoy. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's part of what has become known as the \"shared economy,\" where \"peer-to-peer\" businesses are disrupting established industries and giving headaches to municipal regulators and tax collectors. \u003cbr/\u003eCo-founder Tomas Bermudez says the aim is to boost social connections through the love of food. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Food opens the door to talk about all kinds of things,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We believe that when people connect over food, it is a very unwinding experience. Everyone is relaxed and open to meeting people. You have something that everyone is sharing, food you enjoy, to appreciate what the chef has done. It is like the chef is an artist and we are all witnessing an art performance than be eaten by everyone.\"\u003cbr/\u003eWhat Cookapp does is take the hassle out of organising and paying for gatherings around food. \u003cbr/\u003eCustomers don't have to worry about waiting in line or getting a table - the website handles all that. \u003cbr/\u003eGuests pay online when they make reservations.\u003cbr/\u003eHome cooks can focus on experimenting with dishes and hosting skills, without the cost or risk of attempting a start-up restaurant. \u003cbr/\u003eThey know just how many people they're cooking for, and their expenses are covered in advance. \u003cbr/\u003eTonight, CookApp regular Jose Popolo and a friend are going out for their latest meal. \u003cbr/\u003eThe food is being laid on by the culinary partnership of Chef Ezequiel de la Torre and Martin Arrojo.\u003cbr/\u003eArrojo, a construction worker by day, and De la Torre, a trained cook who sells baby accessories, have hosted about 200 dinners for 25 people at a time since November. \u003cbr/\u003eThey see the CookApp as a way of sharing their passion with others outside their circle of friends.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The guests come and share in this experience and they can all feel as if they are friends,\" says de la Torre.\u003cbr/\u003e\"They might all be from separate places but they still want to get to know each other. \u003cbr/\u003e\"For example, when you are waiting at the doctor's office, you wouldn't talk to anyone, you wouldn't interact, you wouldn't greet each other but when there is a plate of food, it helps people create networks in such an organic way. When people begin to talk in this place, they talk as if they were a family.\"\u003cbr/\u003eWith a guest list usually limited to no more than 25, the culinary pair try to open up their doors roughly twice a week.\u003cbr/\u003eMarina Ojero is a first-time guest.\u003cbr/\u003eShe's enjoyed the food and the company. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's a wonderful opportunity to eat some great food. The environment is so friendly, the people are friendly, it was a great experience,\" says Ojero.\u003cbr/\u003e\"For me it was something new that I had never done. So I can say to others that it was definitely worth it for me to come and that they can do it too.\"\u003cbr/\u003eCookApp describes itself as a marketing service that simply matches chefs with customers who make \"donations.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThe company pays taxes on its 20 percent, and says each cook should declare any profits and losses. \u003cbr/\u003eRelying primarily on word of mouth for it's publicity, CookApp hopes to expand its more than 50 thousand current users. \u003cbr/\u003eYet the social experience can be heavily dependent on the quality of the food - which is why the company says there is a thorough screening process before a chef is accepted. \u003cbr/\u003eApplicants are first interviewed and perform a mock CookApp meal before joining this network of more than 800 chefs. \u003cbr/\u003eCandidates are judged on more than just their cooking.\u003cbr/\u003eThe appearance and location of their home is taken into account and also their ability to host and entertain.\u003cbr/\u003ePopolo, who has been to 15 CookApp meals, is full of praise for de la Torre and Martin Arrojo.\u003cbr/\u003e\"These chefs were especially hands on during the entire meal. Always asking, 'How is everything, how are you, how are feeling, do you need anything, do you want more water or wine? Ok, now we are going to have someone sing, now we're going to eat dessert.' \u003cbr/\u003e\"They were so dynamic and it made this experience distinct from my other cook app meals. They really wanted to interact with the guests.\"\u003cbr/\u003eFor de la Torre, the CookApp events are a way of forging new looks between foodies and chefs. \u003cbr/\u003e\"When opening your home for something you love to do, people can truly feel what you are trying to create. It brings out the best in you,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Everyone that comes, they understand that we have done our best with each and every plate and they can have a great impression and praise our cooking.
