Wide of Hong Kong skyscrapers and traffic \u003cbr/\u003eAs the technology of cost free spamming updates on a daily basis, Hong Kong is being bombarded by unwanted emails from around the globe.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite recent legislation passed to help curb the problem, the city remains the most spammed place on Earth. \u003cbr/\u003eNow industry chiefs are joining forces to call for an anti-spam war.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the computer room at Hong Kong Baptist University, graduate Martin Choy spends 15-30 minutes  a day clearing spam from his inbox.  \u003cbr/\u003eIt's a chore many of us are will be familiar with, but Choy doesn't have a spam filter and says he's bombarded constantly by promotional emails that disrupt his day. \u003cbr/\u003eA recent report by antivirus software vendor McAfee Inc. found that \"hk\" (Hong Kong) is among the  top three most dangerous domains to navigate. The other two are to are  \".cn\" (China) and \".info\" (information). \u003cbr/\u003eNetwork management company, Network Box Corporation Limited, was established in 2000. It offers clients \u003cbr/\u003edefence against all kinds of  internet attack including spam filter systems. \u003cbr/\u003eManaging Director, Michael Gazeley, says spam has become an unbearable problem at Network Box for individuals in particular. In his company, about two-thirds of all mail  scanned are either spam or viruses. In some ISP portal sites less than one in 100 emails are genuine. \u003cbr/\u003eA May 2008 report from internet security company MessageLabs  found Hong Kong to be the most spammed place on Earth. Nearly 86 percent of mails in Hong Kong were spam, compared to the global average of about 76 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eMatthew Shriner, Director of Sales of the Asia Pacific region from MessageLabs, says the successful economy and the multi-national environment attracts both English and Chinese spammers.\u003cbr/\u003eThe report also revealed that spammers were moving towards the exploitation of free, mainstream hosted services such as Google Docs, Calendar and Microsoft SkyDrive to spread spam.\u003cbr/\u003eHong Kong passed the \"Unsolicited Electronic Messages (UEM) Bill\"1 in May 2007 in an attempt to cut the amount of commercial spam,  but as lawmaker Sin Chung-kai explains, the effectiveness of fighting against spam on the Internet is limited due to the difficulty in tracking spam originated from overseas.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Unsolicited Electronic Messages Bill targets unsolicited commercial electronic messages, including emails and phone calls, to reduce the nuisance caused to the public.\u003cbr/\u003eBelieving legislation itself cannot eliminate the problem totally, the industry suggests building a common blacklist against spammers.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Chairman of the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) York Mok, when spam senders are blacklisted, they will be unable to access the network.\u003cbr/\u003eMok says the increasing number of internet users and email accounts in Hong Kong widens the potential base for the spammers. The low cost of generating spam also provides incentive for senders to mail junk.\u003cbr/\u003eThe statistics provided by the ISPA show that Hong Kong receives most of its spam from the U.S.,
