Various of three young women from Kanagawa prefecture enjoying the new technology. \u003cbr/\u003ePurikura is a contraction of the trade mark purinto kurubu (print club.)  \u003cbr/\u003eThe term refers to the postage stamp size stickers that Japanese girls have decorated their mobile phones, note books and other possessions with since the mid 1990s. \u003cbr/\u003eThe pictures are formatted in elaborate photo booths, and now they can be made using 3D technology.\u003cbr/\u003ePrint club stickers are particularly popular among young women. \u003cbr/\u003eCollected through elementary school until high school graduation, they complement standard photo albums, and provide a pictorial record of the girls'' school days. \u003cbr/\u003eManami and Ayaka are 1st year high school students from Kyoto.  \u003cbr/\u003eThey take purikura around 4 times per month. They pose and decorate selected images.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It is so we remember. We are recording memories,\" says Manami. \u003cbr/\u003eAs well as getting a sheet of stickers they can also download the data to their mobiles.\u003cbr/\u003eA popular purikura brand now also offers complementary eyelashes and an image that makes the subject''s eyes slightly larger and more sparkling than life. \u003cbr/\u003eMinami and Yoshiyasu are also 1st year high school students. \u003cbr/\u003eThey became a couple on January 10th 2009 and have made purikura stickers once or twice per month ever since. \u003cbr/\u003eMinami says: \"Mobile phones, mirrors, where else do we stick them?\" \u003cbr/\u003e\"Desk pads,\" says Yoshiyasu. \u003cbr/\u003eThis year, a company from Osaka has taken the purikura idea a step further with a product called Mirai Snap. \u003cbr/\u003eUsing a Web cam housed in an NEC Papero robot (personal robot) it is now possible for users to create their own 3D CG animated purikura which they can download to their cell phones and send to others. \u003cbr/\u003eIshiko Masayoshi is CEO of Gyrowalk the robotics company responsible for developing Mirai Snap. \u003cbr/\u003eHe explains that the system uses \"AR technology to superimpose special effects on a video clip taken by a robot.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The data can then be downloaded onto a mobile phone. So this is the world''s first 3D video purikura,\" he says.   \u003cbr/\u003eAR or Augmented Reality means a real-time view of a given environment that is merged or augmented by computer generated images.  \u003cbr/\u003eIshiko says that he wanted to develop the system as a means of allowing visitors to Osaka to demonstrate to friends how great the city is. \u003cbr/\u003e\"People from all over the world come to Osaka and I thought it would be great if there was some way they could instantly send a video showing how much fun the city is. incorporate images of Osaka''s trade mark snack food, Tako Yaki, or octopus balls.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe robot uses an object recognition programme to make the octopus balls fly out of the user''s mouth or accumulate around the their head in an afro wig.  \u003cbr/\u003eUsing a QR code the users can then download the video and send it where ever they choose. \u003cbr/\u003eIshiki hopes to broaden the
