of his birth.\u003cbr/\u003eThe unveiling at Christ's College, where Darwin lived when he was a student at the university, was carried out by Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II.\u003cbr/\u003eDarwin's great great grand-daughter, Sarah Darwin, was there to witness the event. \u003cbr/\u003eShe said if Darwin were alive today, he would be deeply concerned about climate change.\u003cbr/\u003eAlso there was journalist Andrew Marr, who is president of the Galapagos Conservation Trust. \u003cbr/\u003eDarwin formulated his ground breaking theory of evolution by natural selection - which included the famous idea of \"the survival of the fittest\" - after visiting the Galapagos Islands.\u003cbr/\u003eMarr said that of all the big ideas over the past two hundred years, Darwin's theory had stood the test of time. \u003cbr/\u003eThe rooms where Darwin lodged as a student in the early 1800s has been recreated so visitors can see how he lived.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's in a block used by students and staff today - but Darwin's name remains on the board by the door.\u003cbr/\u003eHistorian Dr John van Wyhe says it's amazing to be able to see the luxurious conditions in which Darwin lived.\u003cbr/\u003eBorn on 12 February 1809, Darwin caused outrage by challenging the biblical account of creation - arguing instead that humans evolved from lower species, and by his idea that all creatures had evolved over the millennia from very simple life forms instead of being created as immutable forms by God. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's a controversy that continues to rage to this day, with so-called creationists still believing in the Biblical account of creation.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was in the Galapagos Islands, a remote island chain off South America, that Darwin made some of his earliest discoveries, and saw how some species varied between the islands, according to the particular environment they lived in.\u003cbr/\u003e\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003c/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv
