methods of birth control that they say can work after conception, in violation of their religious beliefs.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fast-paced 90-minute argument at the court touched on abortion and health care law in general, but focused mainly on the question of whether profit-making businesses have religious rights. \u003cbr/\u003ePro-life supporters say the case is forcing business owners to act against their religious beliefs\u003cbr/\u003eThe vice president of Americans United for life, Jeanneane Maxon, protesting outside the court said the new law was \"against all the principles of freedom of conscience, of freedom of liberty and freedom of religion that we hold so dearly in this country\".\u003cbr/\u003eThe justices have never ruled that way before, but the companies in the Supreme Court case and their backers argue that a 1993 federal law on religious freedom extends to businesses as well as individuals.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Certainly a corporation per se has no religious beliefs and it is absolute and complete bigotry to imagine that they would have the right to propagate religious views on health care to anyone else,\" said pro-choice supporter, Don Wharton.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Obama administration and its supporters said a Supreme Court ruling in favour of the businesses also could undermine laws governing immunisations, Social Security taxes and minimum wages.\u003cbr/\u003eUnder the new health care law, health plans must offer a range of preventive services at no extra charge, including all forms of birth control for women that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.\u003cbr/\u003eSome of the nearly 50 businesses that have sued over covering contraceptives object to paying for all forms of birth control. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the companies involved in the high court case are willing to cover most methods of contraception, as long as they can exclude drugs or devices that the government says may work
