at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. \u003cbr/\u003eThe artifact, a fragment about 0.5 (1.27 centimetres) by 0.5 inches (1.27 centimetres) in size, was recently discovered beneath a 10th Century BC tower dating from the period of King Solomon near the southern wall of the Old City in the Ophel area. \u003cbr/\u003eIt was originally part of a larger tablet used as correspondence between the rulers of Jerusalem and Egypt. \u003cbr/\u003eProfessor Wayne Horowitz from Hebrew University said that it is \"the very first time that we have a Canaan-formed text from Jerusalem and it's also even, perhaps more special, the oldest written evidence, the oldest document ever to come out of the ground of Jerusalem.\"\u003cbr/\u003eTablets such as this were commonly used to exchange diplomatic messages between kings in the region. \u003cbr/\u003ePrior to this find, the oldest written document found in Jerusalem was from the 8th Century BC. \u003cbr/\u003eThat tablet celebrated the completion of a water tunnel in the City of David.\u003cbr/\u003eDr Eilat Mazar from Hebrew University said more fragments are likely to surface \"in more excavations in the ancient part of
